A patent is a form of intellectual property. A patent gives its owner the right to exclude others from making, using,
selling, and importing an invention for a limited period of time. The patent rights are granted in exchange for an
enabling public disclosure of the invention.
Department of Information Technology & Electronics organised a Knowledge Workshop on Patenting Mechanism in
th
the Digital World on 4 October 2018 at Sisir Mitra Hall, Webel Bhavan, to impart knowledge on the process of filing
of patents to start ups in IT&E sector in West Bengal.
The workshop was graced by the presence of Shri Debashis Sen, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of IT&E,
Govt. of West Bengal and other senior officials of DIT&E and Webel.
The workshop started with address by Shri Sanjay Bhattacharya, Deputy Controller of Patents & Designs, Kolkata on
the topic “Patenting System in India”.

Next topic was “Patent laws” deliberated by Prof N.S. Sreenivasulu, Expert on Technology Laws and Intellectual
