THE SBI CREDIT POINTS SCAM – March 2021
State Bank of India offers the Shop-and-Smile program to all eligible SBI credit card holders
providing opportunities to earn rewards for shopping, dining, travel and other types of
transactions done with an SBI Card. Reward points can be redeemed for a plethora of gifts
from the online rewards catalogue which consists of electronics, vouchers, lifestyle products,
travel vouchers, accessories, home decor, gifts, apparel and much more.
Shop-and-Smile Rewards points accumulated on a credit card account can be redeemed online
by logging onto SBI Card portal/ mobile app using existing customer ID and Password and redeem accrued
reward points for gifts from the online Shop-and-Smile Rewards catalogue. Redemption against Cash can be
made by writing to SBI or sending email. Reward points can be redeemed by calling the SBI card customer care
helpline number where the representative will help with the redemption process.
Rewards redemptions can be done only in multiples of 2000 points per request. SBI will deliver the redeemed
gift at the primary card holder’s doorstep. Merchandise will be delivered within 15 working days and gift
vouchers (valid for a period of 3 months) will be sent in 10 working days. Once the redemption request has
been placed it cannot be cancelled or changed.
THE SCAM
With the increase of digital transactions in the country, online fraud is also increasing rapidly. It is noteworthy
that cases of fraud are coming out daily through fake calls or messages in the name of the bank. Hackers are
constantly trying to rob customers by luring them for big rewards.
