Dr. Amit Mitra, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge of Finance, Industry, Commerce & Enterprise, Information Technology and
Electronics and e-Governance as well as Micro Small Medium Enterprise and Textile, Government of West Bengal
talked on “The Rise of West Bengal as an IT/ITES Destination and Digital Capabilities Hub, and the Opportunities this
presents enterprises” in the fireside chat.

Dr. Amit Mitra, Hon’ble Minister, observed a major change
in the mind-set of the people of Bengal. West Bengal
government is focussed on creating physical asset like
roads schools etcetera. In last few years Multi Super
Speciality hospitals are created in the sub-divisions and
doctors are also interested to come in Bengal as they find
the facilities are so good. The payment system is made
completely digital and transparent. Big companies are
interested to come to the Bengal Silicon Valley Hub as they
are comfortable here.

INFOCOM, an initiative from the house of ABP was started in 2002 as a forum that would demonstrate India's quest to
be the IT superpower, and has turned into a forceful and dynamic event that sets the pace for development in the
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, bringing potential partners together and helping the industry
connect with associates and customers. The 17th edition of INFOCOM, a three-day conclave, was held at ITC Sonar,
Kolkata on 6th to 8th December 2018. This year the focal theme of INFOCOM was ‘When Digital Becomes Human’.

INFOCOM 2018 was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Dr. Amit
Mitra, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology &
Electronics, Finance, Industry, Commerce & Enterprises
and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises & Textiles
Departments, Government of West Bengal, along with
Guests of Honour, Shri Mustafa Jabbar, Hon’ble Minister,
Ministry of Post, Telecommunications and Information
Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of
Bangladesh and other dignitaries.
